Words Martin Luther King Jr.
Wants Us to Remember
DALLAS-As we move towards renewal under President Barack Obama, let us pause to remember power words of Martin Luther King Jr. that is may be the fuel that powers the successes over the next four years.
"A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus."
President Obama offers us the opportunity to mold consensus that can bring equality and justice and the opportunity for prosperity for all.
"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals."
Progress is possible when we remain united and work together without quitting the fight.
“In due season ye shall reap if ye faint not.” We must stay awake and work to open doors for all without prejudice or negative attitudes. One person’s success in the Black community is all our success and helps perpetuate positive outcomes for generations.
"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step."
President Obama’s first 100 days will set the tone for the next four years. MLK reminds us to work with him one step at a time and one day at a time. We don’t know what the future holds, but by faith, all things are possible with God. We cannot see the whole staircase, but we can go up the stairs one step and together we all win and make it to the promised land.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
“Law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress.”
The fight for justice in America is real. It was real during the Civil Rights Movement and with so many African-American men behind bars and DNA test telling the truth about foul district attorneys sending men to prison for crimes not committed.
The fight for true justice is needed because of injustices in courts, police and economic circles.
King warns not to allow our guards to fall and in 2009, Barack Obama gives us the opportunity to finally raise justice to the next level, eliminate abuses and force justice to be fair once and for all.
"The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict."
With so many preachers and politicians committed to padding pockets and collection plate, this is a warning that some pastors and politicians need to heed.
We must not be fooled. Not every pastor tells the truth and not every politician is working for the common good.
Churches and political parties need real leaders and outspoken men and women committed to unselfish interests and truly focused on honesty, integrity, altruistic goals and community service.
"The time is always right to do what is right."
President Barack Obama has the heart and spirit to do what is right. None of us can expect him to do it all by himself. Things must be done fair and right from the church house to the state house and now is the time for all good men to stand up and stand with President Obama to do what is right for every citizen living in this country.
"The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people."
From community service to legislation, it is time for all to stand up, fight and defend free speech. Use those inalienable rights to demand justice and fairness and leadership the puts and end to barriers the block and keep many from breaking social and economic glass ceilings.
"Whatever your life's work is, do it well. A man should do his job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better."
“Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent.”
Let us roll up our sleeves and work hard to make our families, homes, communities and nation a better place for all to live and work.
Together we can do it and the call renewal is the start of great things.
"We are not makers of history. We are made by history."
It all begins day one with the Obama Administration. His dreams, goals and plans for this nation are only as effective and successful as our prayers for him and our willingness to support him and stand behind him.
Let us make a difference together and use our history to help propel us to the next rung of greatness.
